Dean Kara: "It is this priceless perspective that makes teaching sublime. Teaching is a work of the heart, a passion."
Dean of PAU Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. İzzet Kara said the following in his speech: "The decision to celebrate the day of November 24, the 100th anniversary of Atatürk's birth in 1881, when he accepted the position of head teacher, nationwide, led to the emergence of today's Teachers' Day. On behalf of myself and my faculty, I welcome all our esteemed guests who have shown the sensitivity to be with us and honored us on this day, which we celebrate with pride and excitement, and greet them with respect and love. We are very proud and happy to be under this roof where we celebrate teaching skills and where the foundations of teaching skills are laid. We are one of the leading teacher training institutions in our country. This year, we are proud to be among the top 601 institutions in the World University Rankings worldwide. Every goal we reach is a harbinger of new goals. From a faculty with no professors in 2000, today we have become a teacher training institution with 60 professors and 194 faculty members. That is why we look to the future with hope, aware of our duties and responsibilities. Dear guests, what a child is to a parent, a student is to a teacher. It is this priceless perspective that makes teaching sublime. Teaching is a work of the heart, a passion. Our teachers who left their mark have always been and will continue to be in our memories. It is a well-known fact that education positively affects social welfare, enables the division of labor in production, increases the capacity of production and affects quality. Dear guests, dear teachers Atatürk emphasized what teachers can bring to a person with his quote 'The only artist whose work has no signature on it is the teacher'. Teachers are not only the transmitters of knowledge but also the ones who inspire their students and encourage them to think. Future leaders, artists and scientists will be shaped under your guidance. You will bear great responsibility not only in the classroom but also as role models who touch the lives of students. Dear prospective teachers, as a successful university and faculty of education, we want to graduate you, who will raise our children, the guarantee of our future, as teachers with high self-confidence, equipped with 21st century skills and full of determination to renew themselves and work in every new semester. In Turkey's second century, the role of teachers has become even more important in an age where information is rapidly structured and technology and important environments are fused. Teachers play a major role not only as transmitters of knowledge but also as guides who structure knowledge, support its development in the process, support students in analytical thinking and skills, and help them understand the world. Our nation's expectation from you is to glorify the high Turkish culture and take it further. While concluding my speech with these feelings, I would like to congratulate the Teachers' Day of our teachers, especially the Chief Teacher Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, our deceased teachers, our martyred teachers, our retired teachers, our teachers who are still working hard and our dear students."
Rector Kutluhan: "Our university, which is the guide of life, is actually doing this job with the guidance of our teachers"
Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kutluhan stated the following in his speech "What did our teachers teach us? When we ask, we can give a very clear answer today. Because we are living the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. If teachers had not taught their students our Republic, our homeland, our state, our national and religious values, we would not have seen a view of the world that we all see. Therefore, we really owe a debt of gratitude to all our teachers who worked for this cause, who are now deceased, martyred and who are still working. Today Aybüke teacher was martyred. Many of our teachers, I know very well because I also served in the east. The doctor would not have been in the target because there was a need. But the teacher was targeted because she taught the unity of the nation and the indivisibility of the homeland. For this reason, we should not only remember and commemorate our teachers. Indeed, their hands are always kissed and their words are always true. They have a very big role in our upbringing. I tell my friends who will become teachers that every teacher has a knowledge that he/she gives to his/her students, but there is also a soul. Because that teacher grows up within the same scope. With new horizons, our country has really finished its inner world, the Republic of Turkey has opened up to the world and has become a point of peace in the world. In our past, we have the Ottoman Empire, which ruled the world for nearly 500 years and no one was spared a bloody nose. We ruled the Palestinian territories for four hundred and fifty years and no one was spared. But nowadays there is no justice, no humanity, no conscience. Because their teachers are crippled. It means they cannot teach. There is no justice, no humanity, no conscience in their teachings, there are other things. There are evils. So there are teachers who enjoy killing... Thank God we have teachers who teach justice and peace. Therefore, the future of the Republic of Turkey is and will be reserved for many centuries to come. We said that our university is the guide of life. We said that the university should play a role in every field, and it has to. Our university, which is the guide of life, is actually doing this job with the guidance of our teachers. Since the teacher is the guide of the student, we, as a university, want to share what we have learned and what we know with the city, people and humanity. Our producing teachers have created the producing university. Teachers also play a big role in the formation of this university. May God be pleased with them. I congratulate and congratulate all our teachers. Let us look to the future with more justice and peace. The Turkish nation will bring peace to the world. Let us act with this awareness. Let us not be intimidated by anything. Happy Teacher's Day again."
After the opening speeches, the program continued with the speeches of Poet, Writer, Retired Teacher Hasan Kallimci and Retired Teacher Hüseyin Kurucan. Within the scope of the program, many retired teachers shared memories, recited poems and songs. At the end of the program, the Teachers' Anthem was sung together and Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Kutluhan presented a plaque to retired teachers Hasan Kallimci and Hüseyin Kurucan. Certificates of appreciation were presented to all retired teachers who participated and contributed to the program by Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Turan Karadeniz, Dean of Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. İzzet Kara, Dean of Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Yakup Kaska, Dean of Faculty of Music and Performing Arts Prof. Dr. Efe Akbulut, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. Sevgi Özkan.
